Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico

A small, unique fishing village just 45 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta Airport, Sayulita is quickly becoming a getaway destination for travelers trying to avoid the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta.  Sayulita is a wonderful blend of beautiful beaches, green jungle landscape, and the slow life of Mexico.  Long since been “discovered” by adventurous North Americans and Europeans, Sayulita has managed to grow slowly and tastefully over the years, seamlessly weaving people, cultures and cuisine from all over the world to create a truly unique international community.

Sayulita is far enough from Puerto Vallarta to feel like you’re getting away from it all, but close enough not to be a long trek after your flight.  The primary mode of transportation in town is walking, as it really is small enough to walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes or so.  You’ll even see most of the local residents walking to and from local tiendas on a daily basis, picking up what they need when they need it.  If walking around doesn’t interest you, a gold cart rental is a great option.  If you’re worried about walking to the beach, Hotel La Casona is only about 50 paces from the sandy shore of the Riviera Nayarit.

There are plenty of things to do in Sayulita to pass the time.  Many visitors prefer to spend their days lazily laying on the beach near the hotel and being waited on by the staff at Don Pedro’s or Breakfast.  The more adventurous sorts take to the waves on a boogie board or surf board.  If you’re looking for a near and sometimes totally private beach there are plenty within walking distance, just ask the staff at the hotel to point you in the right direction.

Come to Sayulita and enjoy small town Mexico and the beautiful and unique community that has evolved over the years.
